| This sacred site dates back to 200B.C. and was home to several different cultures of mound builders. Some of the first pyramid earthworks in North America were constructed here, and two magnificent stone stellae from the site are startlingly Mayan in apperance. There are two temple mounds intended for worship and two burial mounds, which contained almost five hundred skeletons. This was a flourishing center of trade in prehistoric times, when religion was based on the worship of the sun.Haunted Places,p.119. |
