Ghost Theory: What are they? (Warning: Complicated!) |
For the most part, mainstream science denies the existance of ghosts, spirits and souls. There are some independant researchers and ghost hunters and such, but there's been virtually no study from government-funded scientists on the subject.
In the one hand, Scientists say there's too little evidence for ghost's existance; no hard evidence or observations besides eye-witness accounts (the least reliable in the realm of science.) Scientists are all about mathmatics, experimentation and observation, and then use those to form working theories to explain them.
In the other, "Ghost Hunters" use many kinds of technology to observe spiritual activity. Their instruments vary from the most simple compass to Geomagnetic/Electric Field detectors, thermometers, infrared motion sensors, sound recording equipment, cameras, ect. that often coincide with encounters the human senses detect. They seem to have gathered tons of evidence about the existance of ghosts, but I don't feel they have adaquetely explained them. Their final answer to the basic question "What is a ghost?" is still their personal opinions, dictated more by their religion or guesses than by the evidence.
My interest right now is what exactly ghosts are made of. The most common answer I've heard is that ghosts are just simply made of energy. I don't think that's quite right... rather, ghosts are able to use and manipulate energy to an observable extent. Just because all we've been able to observe is ghost's use of energy does not mean that is all there is to them.
So what is my theory on what Ghosts are?
Well, if they are not energy, then they are made of Particles of some kind. Completely exotic to everything we're used to in the world we see with our eyes. Of course, the point here is that we cannot see everything that exists. We only have 5 (or 6) senses, and unless something stimulates them, we cannot detect anything. After all, if we were robbed of sight and feeling of heat, then how would we ever know that light exists?
Mathmaticly, scientists were able to prove the existance of certian exotic particles decades prior to their discovery. Knowing the Law of Conservation of mass & energy, a tiny amount of energy was mathmaticly unexplainable from nuclear reactions, so they invented a particle known as the Neutrino to explain it. Today, we know that Neutrinos are very very low-massed particles emitted in huge amounts by the sun and all other stars (anti-neutrinos are emitted from nuclear reactors). Millions of neutrinos pass thru your body every second, and pass thru the entire earth as if it were not even there! It takes huge underground chambers of ultra pure water surrounded by sensors to detect a single particle, as it passes thru ordinary matter very easily at the speed of light.
The point of the above example is to show how difficult it can be to observe the existance of certian particles, even with modern science and technology. But how much room is there in the universe for other particles? PLENTY! Astronomers, using math and observation of the gravitational effects on galaxies, have estimated that about 90% of all mass in the universe is unaccounted for. This has been dubbed "Dark Matter".
So all that to arrive at the simple answer that ghosts are made of dark matter. What kind of substance this is exactly can best be determined by the properties of ghosts themselves, and other evidence gathered by those ghost hunters over the years.
-Ghosts can be seen with eyes and cameras. This means ghosts are able to reflect (or absorb) light, like our own matter can. However, they also vanish, so their material either decays into diffrent particles, or perhaps changes states (like how ours turns from solid to liquid or gas.)
-Ghosts have shapes, although variable ones. They may appear as apparitions in human or animal form, as a mist, shadow, or sphere. That suggests their particles can form complex forms very quickly, but may not be stable (or even the same kind of particle depending on the spirit's shape.)
-Ghosts can pass thru solid matter. That is not a unique property, as neutrinos do it very easily, and diffrent wavelenghths of light (like X-rays) can do so as well. Our bodies do not pass thru matter because of a repulsive atomic force known as the Coloumb Barrier, which can only be overcome with high energy as with nuclear fusion. Because ghosts are not made of atoms like our own, they lack this 'exact' force and are not bound by it.
(Next Property is biggest and most easily observed.)
-Ghosts can manipulate electric and/or magnetic fields. Ghost hunters often identify spiritually active areas by sudden changes in the electric fields. A cheaper forewarning of a ghost's appearance can be seen with a spinning or erratic compass needle, which is magnetized. Strong electric fields can also be used to move or levitate matter, which can explain occurances ranging from moved car keys to objects thrown at people by the invisible. Electric fields have also been linked to giving people the feeling that there is another presence in the room, and could be the force that stimulates our "sixth sense". Some ghost hunters suggest humitidy plays a large roll in spiritual activity; they observe more ghosts when humidity is low and electric fields can remain more stable as opposed to higher humidity, which makes the air conductive and electric fields weak. Most known particles that have mass usually have an electric charge, so that property would not be unexpected in dark matter.
Another important hypothesis I do not want to leave out is that our bodies are constantly running with bioelecticity. Electric signals tell our heart to beat, our lungs to breathe, our fingers to twitch on the keyboard to create meaningful words, ect. The brain is full of signals that are never ceasing until death. Perhaps the soul is bound to our bodies by electrical entanglement? The very dark matter in question is already within the limits of our body? Just an interesting thought.
All of this has come out of years of reading and experiencing, as well as a couple long hours of research on Particle Physics and many more hours of just thinking in my mind, realizing there are many potential links. I'd like to see scientists make a very serious attempt to take on the questions of ghosts, but that seems to be tricky. Physicists are used to strictly controlled experiments, but ghosts as biological entities, may not cooperate and therefor might be declared non-existant. Likewise, Ghost Hunting seems to be more in the biology field, as they hunt elusive and sometimes mobile creatures and attempt to get snapshots of them. What true ghost research would require is a grand unification of many (if not all) fields of science.
So anyway, that's the groundworks of my theory on what ghosts are. Looking back on it, seems to instead of being an answer to the question, it only asks far more questions. lol. Comments would be greatly apprieciated, any questions we can ponder together or potential flaws in my reasoning discussed. |

Well, before the century is up, after your death, perhaps you can visit top notch people in Science field, and tell them what ghost really 7 truly are by your on personal ghostly experiences. You be one yourself after your death. Just kidding!!! Seriously though you do raise some good thoughts and questions. |

Spirits/Ghosts are energy, that is why empaths can tell when they are around, empaths feel energy. At least that is what I think. Spirits are still something we don't know everything about. We do know that they are dead souls and the different types there are. We also know that they live on the astral plane. You have some very interesting theories though, maybe one day we will know everything. |

Your findings were very interesting and I also find myself agreeing with most of your theories. My theory is when a ghost is "visible" by human eyes (including cameras), I believe, that the ghost either absorbs or reflects their own particle matters at a certain light angle before it moves and vanishes into the thin air. For example, a rainbow can only be seen by a certain light angle where the lights are bent and be seen on ground, but as you move a few miles away in a different direction, the rainbow disappears because the angle of light doesn't affect the area where you presently stand. Hence the rainbow disappeared into thin air. |
