My kitty, Fate. |
Moon Girl's Fact Or Fiction? post inspired me to write this post.
Anyone who knows me on USM knows how much my animals mean to me and has probably seen a lot of pictures of them.
I was very close to my cat, Fate. He was killed last summer and I've been lost without him. He was an outside cat when I got him. A hunter in fact, so I couldn't keep him locked up inside. I tried, but he was so very miserable.
We had a game that we'd always play. The only way he'd go outside is through my bedroom window. He'd always wake me up to let him in or out. It was a game to him and he loved it. If I wanted him home, I'd just call out the window and he'd come running eventually.
He wore a blue collar with a little bell on it. He loved it so much that he'd shake his head just to hear the bell.
Normally, he was never outside unless I was home. One night I went to the movies and was in such a hurry that I forgot to make sure he was inside before I left. I'll never forgive myself for that.
I saw him ran over on the way home just a block from my house. I totally lost it. I just stopped the car in the middle of the road and went to him. He was dead and from where he was hit, I'm pretty sure he didn't suffer. He was in between the two lanes and it looked to me like someone swerved to him him on purpose. That was one of the worst nights of my life.
Later that night when I was finally able to lay down and relax, I swear I heard his bell in the window. It calmed me a bit because it seemed like he was trying to tell me that he is ok. Since that night, I hear his bell a lot. It's usually when I'm upset about something. I feel like he's trying to comfort me.
I've told this story to several people who think I'm just hearing things. This may be true, but I don't think so. Either way, it helps me to keep his memory alive. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him and miss him terribly.
I'm going to try and add his picture to the post.

Thanks for reading,
Apryl

That's so sad you lost your Fate. I'm sorry to hear about that. While it's possible you were hearing things, I believe it's very possible that your cat did return to show you he was alright and to give you comfort. Animals have an instinctual way of knowing when they're owners are unhappy in life and they often react in a loving manner to try and ease it, so I see no reason why it should be any different once they pass on. It sounds like he's still with you and is watching over you :) Take care ~ Coffee Goddess |

I sympathize with you. Animals really are glorious creatures that are pure love and no ulterior motives. I can almost guarantee you it is him. This only proves the point even more that animals are worthy of love and how much they love us. |

Aww I'm sure Fate is waiting for you at the bridge. I posted about my Foxy passing away last summer. I still miss her very much. So does my male sheltie Rockie. Foxy was my female sheltie. Two months before that, I had to put my yorkie to sleep. Rockie and I are getting along fine. We have a new dog now. We still have the cats Sassy and Tigger too. Rockie and I have been through a lot. I mean A LOT! The poor little guy but he sure is a trooper! He is 11 and still acts like a pup. He always wants to play and is very, very-very energetic, lol and I just love that. Anyway, I wanted to say that one time I had to put another dog to sleep (old age) her name was Jesse. She would always kinda snort and sniff when she wanted in my bedroom. A few days after she died, I heard a "sniffing" at my door (the other dog was outside) about ten minutes later I went downstairs and my friend gave me the mail and said "this came today" it was the card saying that they had buried her. The mail had come like, ten minutes before. I will always believe that it was Jesse at my door.

Oh Girl, I know just how you feel! I have lost 2 of my babies (dogs) over the last 5 months and that has just about got me. I really don't feel the same about life anymore (I know that sounds crazy) but I dearly, dearly loved them and I think of them everyday. I started writing in a journal kind of like writing a daily letter to them telling them whatever happened that day and putting down my memories of them. THat helps me the most. But no I strictly think your cat is still around you were her master and she will always be there to protect you in her own way.
Sincerely, Kathy |
